May 6, 2013

Current/Anticipated Operations:
  • American Bridge Company continues to erect the Level UF, Level 3, Level 6 structural steel members for the new lift span off site at the American Bridge lay-down yard.
  • This work included the installation of the new steel grid roadway decking that will carry vehicular traffic over the bridge, as well as the installation of the structural steel members for the new operator’s house and machinery house which is located on the upper chord of the new lift span.
  • American Bridge crews also completed assembling the Shugart Crane Barge that will carry the Manitowoc 4100 Crawler Crane that will be used in the actual rehabilitation work of the existing north and south towers of the Columbus Road Lift Bridge.
  • Crew is also assembling the barge that will be used for the “float-out” operation of the existing lift span.
  • The existing lift span will be lowered onto the barge and “floated” up river to a location where the existing lift span will be demolished.
  • American Bridge subcontractor Concrete Restoration Specialist continues to perform the concrete patching operations on the south pier, south abutment and north pier of the existing Columbus Rd. Lift Bridge.
  • The bridge remains open and operational at this time.




April 2, 2013
  • American Bridge Company continues to take delivery of Level UF, Level 3, Level 6 and other pertinent structural steel members for the construction of the new lift span off site at the American Bridge lay-down yard.
  • Continuing to erect the Level UF, Level 3, Level 6 and other pertinent structural steel members for the lower and upper chords of the new lift span at the American Bridge lay-down yard.
  • Subcontractor Concrete Restoration Specialist returned to the bridge site to resume concrete patching operations on the South Pier, South Abutment and North Pier.
  • The Columbus Rd. Bridge remains open and operational at this time following a three week closure due to electrical problems.


March 4, 2013
  • American Bridge Continues to take delivery of Level UF, Level 3, Level 6 &
    other pertinent Structural Steel members for the construction of the new lift span off site at the American Bridge lay‐down yard.
  • Contractor also continues to erect the level UF, Level 3, Level 6 & other
  • pertinent Structural Steel members for the lower and upper chords of the
  • new lift span at the American Bridge lay‐down yard.



Current/Anticipated Operations:

  • Construction of false work to erect and construct the new lift span for the bridge at the American Bridge lay‐down yard located off site.
  • American Bridge is scheduled to take delivery of the first load of structural steel for the construction of the new lift span at the American Bridge lay‐down yard on Monday, January 14, 2013.
  • Installation of new windows in the north and south tender houses located on the north and south ends of the existing bridge.
  • Continuation of plumbing, electrical & HVAC work in the north and south tender houses located on the north and south ends of the existing bridge.
  • Columbus Road Lift Bridge is NOT scheduled to be closed to vehicular traffic until June 2013.

June 20, 2012

  • Anticipated work for the next
    30 days

  • Continue to re-point mortar joints for sandstone blocks and clay brick exterior walls of the south side bridge tender’s house.

  • Resetting sandstone blocks where required on south bridge tender’s house.

  • Start to re-point sandstone blocks and clay brick mortar joints north side tender’s houses.

  • Contractor to continue to furnish submittals for shop drawings, means & methods.

  •  Columbus Road Lift Bridge is NOT scheduled to be closed to vehicular traffic until June 2013.



April 30, 2012

  • Anticipated work for the next 30 days
  • Mock cleanup of north side tender house on existing sandstone block walls.
  • Perform pre-construction video-taping of the project
  • Pre-construction survey of existing structure, both south and north towers along with deck elevations of the lift span.
  • Contractor to continue to furnish submittals for shop drawings, means and methods.
  • Lift Bridge is NOT scheduled to be closed to vehicular traffic until June
