Independence, Valley View & Walton Hills – The finger joint on the Pleasant Valley Road Bridge 09.68 is experiencing some critical deterioration and distress. In order to relieve the pressure and some of these stresses, and also repair the structural elements, the Department of Public Works will be implementing a weight restriction across this structure. The structure will be limited to cars and will be Posted “No Trucks over 7000 Lbs.”. Additionally, due to the continued deterioration and prior failures on similar structures, the entire north sidewalk will be closed until repairs can be made.

In addition, Emergency and Safety Vehicles will be permitted across this structure during the restriction. This includes the use of snow plows with two restrictions: 1) All plows proceed over the bridge at or below 10 mph. 2) All plows MUST lift the blades at the finger joint as indicated by the yellow “Lift Plow” warning signs.

This restriction will be in place until the Department can finalize plans for a repair. We anticipate the construction on the joint and sidewalk to take place in the summer of 2013.

If you should have any questions, comments or inquiries, please contact the Public Information Department, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, at 216-348-3824.
